Discovery gunman to NBC News: 'I have a bomb' - Sept. 1: A standoff between a hostage-taker and police at the headquarters of the Discovery Channel lasted about four hours Wednesday before Maryland police shot the gunman and rescued the small number of hostages he was holding. NBC   s Tom Costello reports.   (Nightly News)The man who held three hostages at the Discovery Communications building in Maryland told NBC News in a brief telephone conversation that he had explosives.

Suspect had long protested Discovery programming - James Lee  protested outside Discovery Communications headquarters in Silver Springs, Md. in 2008. He vehemently believed the  company's programming was not doing enough to save the environment.James J. Lee, the suspected gunman who took hostages at the Discovery Communications building in Maryland, apparently had a long history of contempt for company, which includes the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science Channel and Planet Green networks.
